Important Update for Immigration Applicants in the USA
👉Attention all applicants needing to change their status within the United States!
New USCIS Policy Alert!
On December 2, 2024, the USCIS website announced a significant rule change. Applicants submitting the I-485 form are now required to include the I-693 form (medical examination report and vaccination records) at the time of submission. Failure to do so may result in the denial of the immigration application. ⏱ This new rule is effective immediately!
What Does This Mean for You?
This update indicates that I-485 applicants must complete their medical exams and vaccination requirements before submission. You are required to submit a correctly filled and signed I-693 form by a civil surgeon, indicating that you do not have any health-related issues that would prevent your admission into the United States. 😶🌫
How to Complete Your Immigration Medical Exam?
Here’s a step-by-step guide to ensure you complete your medical examination smoothly:
- Schedule an appointment with an USCIS-designated civil surgeon.
- Bring your passport, U.S. driver’s license, and the I-693 form to your appointment.
What is Included in the Medical Examination?
The medical examination will cover various health checks, including:
- General Examination: Height, weight, heart rate, X-rays, and a review of your medical history.
- Blood Test: Required for individuals 15 years and older, including tests for syphilis and gonorrhea.
- Vaccinations:
- MMR: Measles, Mumps, and Rubella
- Hepatitis B
- Influenza: Checked during flu season (October to March)
- DTP: Diphtheria, Tetanus, and Pertussis
- Varicella (Chickenpox)
- COVID-19: Different institutions may have varying requirements—some may require vaccination within the last year. Consult with your doctor for details.
If you have not been vaccinated, you can receive the necessary vaccinations as outlined above. If you have been vaccinated, a blood test may suffice. If any vaccination is deemed incomplete, you may need to catch up. After your exam, ensure that your doctor signs the I-693 form and places all reports in a sealed envelope—do not open it!
Important Changes Regarding I-693 Validity
As of November 1, 2023, the I-693 form has removed its time limit and is now permanently valid. If you completed your medical examination prior to this date, your results will still be valid for 2 years.
Cost of Immigration Medical Exam
The medical examination cost typically ranges from $210 to $240 per person. 💰
