Discover Anchorage, Alaska: A 4-Day Itinerary

Hi everyone! It’s that magical time of year again: the annual travel season in Alaska is upon us! 😍 Let’s dive into my experiences in Anchorage, perfect for anyone planning to explore this stunning destination this year. Here’s a recap of my adventures!

✨ Day 1: Matanuska Glacier Hike 🏃🏻

Our journey began with an exhilarating hike on the Matanuska Glacier – the largest accessible glacier! The sight of its mesmerizing blue ice, glistening under the sun, was nothing short of breathtaking. It felt as if we had stepped into a scene from “Game of Thrones”! ❄️ Walking through this icy paradise, every step was surrounded by postcard-worthy views. 😍

Tip: If you’re renting a car, you don’t need to book a tour. Just call ahead to reserve a spot and join a local guide on-site to save a lot of 💰!

Day 2: Kayaking in Columbia Glacier 🚣

After an adventurous first day, we made our way to Valdez, a charming and peaceful town. We signed up for a kayaking tour with Anadyr Adventures first thing the next morning. This experience was unforgettable as we navigated through floating ice and breathtaking blue ice caves. It was truly worth it! 😍

Tip: Dress warmly! Wear waterproof shoes and clothing, layer up your socks, and don’t forget a hat and some snacks!

Day 3: Kenai Fjords Cruise 🚢

No trip to Alaska is complete without visiting its iconic national parks! We embarked on a 6-hour cruise that whisked us out to awe-inspiring glaciers, where we witnessed the beauty of avalanches and calving ice up close. Along the way, we spotted various marine wildlife, including whales 🐳, sea otters, bald eagles, and sea lions! 🦭

Tip: Book through Viator – if you choose a tour lasting over 6 hours, you’ll get to see the stunning glaciers up close. We departed from Seward harbor, and it was an incredible experience at a great value!

Day 4: Knik Glacier Helicopter Tour 🚁

The climax of our trip was a 1-hour helicopter tour over Knik Glacier. The sight was pure magic! 😍 We encountered the stunning blue melt ponds that felt as if they belonged in a fantasy realm. Surrounded by immense quietude, it felt like the world was ours – if only we could stay longer to soak it all in.

Tip: Definitely book in advance with Alaska Helicopter to secure your spot!

Dining Recommendations 🍽️

While exploring Anchorage, I highly recommend indulging in delicious sushi! We initially tried some famous local dining spots, but they didn’t live up to the hype and were quite pricey. 😂 We quickly switched to Japanese cuisine, where we enjoyed incredibly thick salmon sashimi – a true delight! 😋

Recommended sushi spots: Miso and Sushi Ya – you can’t go wrong with their sashimi!
