Springtime in Washington, D.C., is a magnificent affair, especially when it comes to the iconic cherry blossoms 🌸 that draw visitors from all over the world. Recently, I received some exciting news from my cousin in the USA regarding a massive $113 million restoration project set to begin along the Tidal Basin and Potomac River banks. This ambitious endeavor aims to address long-standing flooding issues that have affected the area.

A Bittersweet Farewell to Cherry Trees

However, this project comes at a price, as it requires the removal of 159 beloved cherry blossom trees. Just before this unfortunate event, my friend Ryan and I were incredibly fortunate to catch the breathtaking cherry blossom display! 😍🥰 Despite the weather being less than hospitable, with temperatures plunging to -1°C and strong winds making it feel even colder, we braved the elements to experience this seasonal spectacle. To avoid the weekend crowd, we ventured out, even if it meant our noses turned red from the cold!

As the wind chill took its toll, I found myself carrying a 20-pound stroller for over two hours since my baby wouldn’t sit still. Pride as a mom aside, the aches in my back were a small price to pay for the stunning photos we captured amidst the blooming cherry blossoms.
