Your One-Day Adventure in Macau
Your One-Day Adventure in Macau: Tips and Highlights 🏙️
Macau might be small, but it’s packed with things to do and see! If you’re planning your first visit, staying overnight is highly recommended to truly soak in the experiences. Here’s a comprehensive guide based on my adventures in Macau to help you avoid potential pitfalls and make the most of your trip! 🌟
Visa and Entry Requirements 🎫
- Macau and Hong Kong have a joint visa policy, so you only need one entry permit for both areas. If you travel between them, it counts as a single entry as long as you don’t return mainland China.
- If you wish to visit Macau for two consecutive days, note that there’s a 60-day interval for re-entry, which is related to the visa and not your actual travel days.
Crossing the Border 👮
There are four border crossings to Macau, but the most convenient ones are Gongbei and Hengqin. If you’re staying near Changlong, Hengqin is ideal, while Gongbei is perfect for those exploring downtown Zhuhai.
Getting Around Macau 🚌
- Fortune Cars: After crossing the border, you’ll see colorful Fortune Cars. Choose one based on your destination—rides are free, and kids are welcome!
- Public Buses: Rides cost 6 MOP per person, and you can conveniently pay using your smartphone.
- Light Rail: The newly opened light rail connecting Hengqin to Macau is a game changer!
Must-See Itinerary 📍
Macau is divided into two main areas: the Peninsula and Taipa. Start your exploration in the morning on the Peninsula, then move to Taipa where the vibrant nightlife awaits.
- On the Peninsula:
- Cross at Gongbei and take a Fortune Car to St. Paul’s Ruins (or New Grand Lisboa).
- Visit Our Lady of the Rosary Church, Romance Alley, and the Ruins of St. Paul’s.
- Don’t miss Wynn Palace for the hourly tree show!
- Enjoy free milk tea at MGM before heading to Taipa.
- In Taipa:
- Visit City of Dreams and take a free gondola ride at Wynn Palace.
- Check out Rua do Cunha for local snacks and the iconic Londoner.
- Step into the Parisian for a photo op with the Eiffel Tower, and enjoy the free observation deck!
Instagrammable Spots 💟

- St. Paul’s Ruins: A prime spot for unique photos, especially with the nearby attractions.
- Our Lady of the Rosary Church: A beautiful yellow building near Senado Square.
