Experiencing the 2024 Summer Work and Travel Program in Cape Cod, Massachusetts 🇺🇸

Participating in the 2024 Summer Work and Travel Program has been an incredible journey so far! From May 28 to September 14, I will be spending my summer in the scenic environment of Cape Cod, a beautiful area known for its stunning coastlines and friendly communities. 🌊

Job Experiences

1️⃣ Main Job: Roche Bros. Supermarket

My primary job is at Roche Bros., a well-known supermarket in Cape Cod. During the interview, I expressed my strong desire to work in the bakery department, and lucky for me, I got exactly what I wished for! This supermarket also has various departments, including Deli, Grocery, Meat, and Kitchen, giving employees diverse work options. 💼

Pay Rate: All departments pay the same rate of $15.60 per hour, with Sundays offering overtime pay at 1.5x the regular rate. I receive my wages weekly, making it easy to manage finances during the summer.

2️⃣ Second Job: Stop and Shop

For my second job, I work at the Stop and Shop nearby. Since my main job is in the bakery, I was also assigned to the bakery section here, which has made my working experience quite smooth and enjoyable. The management is great, and the work atmosphere is relaxed. 😊

Pay Rate for Second Job: I earn $18.00 per hour, which aligns well with the hours of my main job.

Job Availability and Work Environment

Finding a second job in the area is relatively easy; there are numerous shops and restaurants close to Roche Bros., providing ample opportunities to earn extra income. 💪

Living Arrangements

Most participants, including myself, reside in the East Falmouth area. The only downside is the daily commute – cycling back and forth can be exhausting, as it takes about 25 minutes each way. 🚴‍♂️

For accommodations, options include:

• South Cape Motel: $135 per week
• Staying in a basement of a host family: $145 per week

Weather Challenges

Even though it’s summer, I was surprised by how chilly things can get! Being someone who is sensitive to cold, the mornings and evenings were noticeably brisk, especially while cycling in windy conditions. 🥶
