The Future of Agents in Technology: Insights from the Bay Area

🤖 As we kick off the year, one of the most intriguing topics on everyone’s mind is the evolution of agents in technology!

🧠 Recently, I organized a dinner in the Bay Area centered around the theme of agents. This event brought together core LLM researchers and leading agent entrepreneurs, resulting in invaluable discussions and networking opportunities!

A Unique Dinner Experience

🍽️ Our dinner featured a diverse group of 12 participants:

• Half of the attendees were founders of agent startups backed by top American VCs like a16z, with products spanning general agents, agent applications, and agent infrastructure.
• The other half were top-tier researchers from renowned institutions such as OpenAI, DeepMind, Meta, Anthropic/Berkeley, Stanford, and Microsoft.

This blend of expertise—ranging from practical applications to cutting-edge research—sparked some electrifying discussions! 💥

Notable Guests and Insights

🧑‍💻 One of our standout guests was Hongyu, who collaborated with Sam Altman to introduce OpenAI’s O3. Although we had a short mini press conference, the insights shared were priceless!

Engaging Discussions

💬 We delved into a multitude of topics during our time together, such as:

• How will agents be implemented in real-world scenarios?
• What new capabilities does O3 bring, and what does the future hold for model development?
• What changes might we see in coding agents, and what opportunities and challenges lie ahead for startups in this space?

One of my favorite moments was when ❤️ Echo shared her journey transitioning from a tax expert to a co-founder of a bookkeeping agent startup. Her insights were incredibly pragmatic and inspirational!
