Reflections on Life Abroad: A Journey Through YouTube Stars

It has been five years since I returned to my home country after living in the UK 🇬🇧, and I’ve now blessedly welcomed my own little one into the world. As the Lunar New Year approached, I logged into my YouTube account to check in on the mainland YouTubers I once followed during my overseas life. Some have stayed abroad, some have returned, and others have experienced major changes like marriage and separation. It stirred up a wave of nostalgia, prompting me to share my thoughts on a few notable content creators.

📎 Oh Emma

Emma has been on my radar for quite some time, long before her popularity surged with her pregnancy video featuring river snails. I’ve had the privilege of witnessing her journey—landing high-profile advertising deals, walking in international fashion weeks, giving birth, and even going through a divorce, before recently rekindling her relationship. While some criticize her for seemingly returning to a traditional role after establishing herself as a strong, independent woman, I admire her resilience. Maintaining positivity during life’s lows and being responsible for her child is a rare and commendable trait. I prefer to reserve judgment on her situation, as I recognize I don’t know all the details.

📎 ReginaKnowsss

Regina, Emma’s close friend, caught my attention when I first watched their “What’s in My Bag?” video. Back then, her makeup style leaned towards a slightly alternative look. Over the years, her beauty has undeniably evolved. Although she has experienced brief romantic relationships, unfortunately, they all ended in heartbreak. As a single woman in her 30s living in Toronto, I sense a hint of anxiety and helplessness bubbling beneath her graceful demeanor. She has raised her dog, Aria, for years and shows deep care for her friends, showcasing her emotional depth. Listening to her speak is always a pleasure; her eloquent words flow with rich imagery and logical structure. If I had a warm friend like her, I would consider myself fortunate.

📎 Savislook

Here we have an aesthetically gifted influencer who once shone brightly among North American YouTubers. Her fashion and home decor choices echo a remarkable taste, undoubtedly influenced by her partner, Dazao, who was her boyfriend at the time. Their mutual support played a significant role in their success. While I enjoyed their American videos during their time there, my views dwindled when they returned to China. Recently, they announced the exciting news of expecting twins, a sweet culmination of their years spent together. Congratulations to them!

📎 VickySoupsss

It’s hard to follow Chinese YouTubers abroad and not encounter Vicky. She and her husband, Diling, exhibit what appears to be a blissful relationship, at least through the lens of social media. They seem to possess the unique ability to create a warm and cozy life together. A long time ago, Vicky revealed that she met her husband through WeChat’s ‘People Nearby’ feature. Although he is six years her junior, they are both from Chengdu and eventually settled in California. Old followers can’t help but marvel at the whims of fate. Despite facing challenges in their journey to parenthood, they joyously welcomed a daughter, marking a truly fulfilling chapter in their lives.

In Retrospect

Looking back at my time in London, I fondly remember listening to Miss Celia’s midnight show on Litchi FM—sweet and sensual. I also followed parenting blogs that brought me moments of clarity amidst the chaos. All this took place during the flourishing era of 2015+, and it’s hard to believe that a decade has already passed. Life has its seasons, and witnessing the journeys of these creators reminds me of how far we’ve all come. 🌏✨

Stay tuned for more reflections and insights as I continue this journey of discovery and sharing!
