Transforming My Cozy Kitchen and Laundry Room: A Home Renovation Journey

Two years ago, I embarked on an exciting journey to renovate my small, cozy black house. My main focus was on two significant projects: upgrading the kitchen and adding a laundry room. 🚪🛠️

Kitchen Renovation: From Cramped to Spacious

As you can see in Image 5, my old kitchen was narrow and dated. To recreate the space, I made the bold decision to remove a load-bearing wall (see Image 4). This transformation led to a beautiful open kitchen layout that has truly changed my cooking experience. Now, I look forward to preparing meals every day! 🍳✨

Creating a Functional Laundry Room

Next, I tackled a project near and dear to my heart: converting part of the garage into a dedicated laundry room. By reclaiming 130sqft, I was able to create an organized and functional space. I also added storage cabinets (check out Images 6 and 7), making my laundry tasks so much more convenient! 🧺💡

Budget Breakdown for the Renovation

For anyone considering a similar renovation, here’s a breakdown of the costs I incurred:

• Labor Costs: $100,000 (including wall removal, garage conversion, electrical upgrades, tankless water heater installation, painting, flooring, cabinetry, appliances, countertops, tiles, and other renovations)
• Architect & Permit Fees: $10,800 ($8,000 + $2,800)
• Cabinets, range hood, and cabinet handles: $22,000
• Quartz countertops and sink: $5,500
• Backsplash tile: $1,200
• Appliances: $14,000 (excluding washing machine and dishwasher)
• Flooring: $4,700
• Faucets & Pot Filler: $1,150
• Chandeliers and island stools: $1,100

Total Expenses: $160,450

Final Thoughts

This renovation was a significant investment, but the transformation of my home has been worth every penny. Not only has my kitchen become a joyful space where I enjoy cooking, but the new laundry room has made managing household chores much easier.
