My Epic Move from the East Coast to LA
My Epic Move from the East Coast to LA
Last October, I made the big transition from the bustling East Coast of the 🇺🇸 to the sunny streets of Los Angeles. While I’ve been living alone for many years, this move posed an “epic” challenge that I felt compelled to share with anyone who might find it helpful.
Preparation for the Move 🏠
- Subletting my current home and finding a new place in LA.
- Selling large furniture items 🪑 and packing personal belongings 📦.
- Contacting a vehicle transport company 🚗 two weeks prior to departure.
- Updating the addresses on my various bank cards 1-2 days before leaving.
Packing My Belongings 📦
I purchased large boxes from Home Depot that are just the right size for a single woman to handle comfortably. To ensure secure packaging, I wrapped the boxes in green plastic film and then sealed them with strong tape—super effective! [👍][👍]
Decluttering before the Move 🎀
Before the move, I took the opportunity to sell clothes that I hadn’t worn in over a year. I found that Plato’s Closet and Crossroads Trading were great places to do this. Additionally, I listed furniture for sale in second-hand groups online.
Shipping My Luggage 🧸
After doing extensive research online, I finally chose LugLess to ship my belongings. I highly recommend them! 👍 I opted for full insurance coverage; three large boxes cost me about 💲230, which was incredibly reasonable. Their delivery estimate was spot-on; in fact, my luggage arrived a day early and was delivered straight to my new apartment door (upstairs)! What a lifesaver for a girl! 🤩
Cross-Country Car Transport 🚗
This was the most stressful part of my move. If you’re short on time and want a hassle-free experience, I suggest going with the largest company, MONTWAY. Avoid small companies that quote you, as they may sell your information and leave you dealing with unwanted calls. [🥳][🥳]
The Moment I Saw My New Home 🏡
After all the efforts of moving, seeing my new place felt surreal, but every bit of it was worth it! The sunshine and atmosphere of the West Coast are incredibly rejuvenating. I feel like a new person! 🌞
Final Thoughts
I hope my experiences can help you navigate your own moving adventure. Whether it’s packing, shipping, or just adjusting to a new life, you’ve got this!
