My Dad’s Inspiring Journey: From the USA to the UK
Born in the early 1970s, my dad was the quintessential “perfect child” – a top student throughout school and a maestro in various arts. However, life had its challenges. During his senior year of high school, he experienced discomfort in his left eye, later diagnosed as a corneal condition. After undergoing a transplant surgery and a month-long recovery, he persevered and took the college entrance examination, achieving an impressive second place in the city. Unfortunately, that year coincided with the student military training in Central China, which was a concern for my grandparents regarding his eye care during recovery. After careful consideration, my dad decided to attend a prestigious C9 university to pursue an engineering degree instead.
A Career in the Corporate World
Upon graduating from university, my dad initially dreamed of further studies, but ultimately he had to make a pragmatic choice. He joined a Fortune 500 Japanese company, where he poured years of hard work into his career, achieving remarkable success. Eventually, during my middle school years, he took the leap into entrepreneurship. The wheels of time kept turning as my father adapted to the complexities of the business world, proving that kindness and human spirit can shine even in challenging circumstances.
A New Chapter in the UK
After years in the business world and supporting me through my Ph.D., my dad’s long-held dream of pursuing further education reignited. He made the bold decision to delve into new opportunities in the UK. I admire his courage to change his destiny and restart his life, so I decided to document his experiences as he studies and works in this new environment. I hope to connect with others who share similar aspirations.
Unlocking Language Skills
Arriving in a new country, the first milestone my dad aimed to achieve was mastering the language. With a basic understanding of English, he enrolled in an English school in my city, focusing on three key courses: Basic English, IELTS preparation, and Business English. His classes start next Monday, yet today, he couldn’t contain his excitement and went to the school to get a head start. 😂
Wishing my dad all the best in his educational journey in the UK! 🌟 And to dreamers everywhere, may you bravely take that first step! #RestartingLife #DadsUKDiaries #UK #LifeInTheUK
