Exploring the U.S. Bureau of Engraving and Printing with Your Toddler 🇺🇸
Traveling around the USA with your little one can be an exciting adventure, especially when you include unique attractions. One must-see is the U.S. Bureau of Engraving and Printing, where you can see how money is made! Here’s a guide to visiting this fascinating spot with your 2-year-old.
1️⃣ How to Visit
The visit is free, but be aware that it’s limited by daily visitor capacity. Ensure to collect your tickets in person during your preferred time slot as online reservations are not available.
2️⃣ Location Details
Address: 📍301 14th St SW, Washington D.C.
When searching for directions, input the Bureau of Engraving and Printing into your navigation tool. ⚠️ Note that the ticket collection point and the entrance are not the same! You’ll need to walk a bit, so head to the ticket booth first to avoid any unnecessary detours. Check out the images in the original post for clarity on your route!
The ticket booth, as shown in the images, looks like a small pavilion. A convenient landmark is the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum; walk 50 meters ahead, and you’ll find it!
3️⃣ Visiting Hours
Plan your visit on weekdays from 8:30 AM to 14:45 PM. Please note that the site is closed on weekends. ⚠️ Tours run every 15 minutes and last about 40 minutes, so it’s best to arrive early to ensure you get tickets!
4️⃣ Tour Experience
The tour includes a security check, an informative video, and a guided tour led by an experienced tour guide. One of the guides we met had taught in D.C. for 20 years and went through a rigorous three-month background check to earn their qualification. Remember, as this is a working facility, photography is not allowed throughout the tour! 📵
Once the tour wraps up, check out the souvenir shop where you can purchase genuine U.S. currency in various denominations—not cut into pieces! It makes for a unique travel keepsake or a fun decoration at home! [😏]
5️⃣ Dining Options
After your visit, consider heading across the street to the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) cafeteria for lunch. It’s a great chance to see what U.S. government employees eat! Plus, they have fried rice and fried noodles that can be a comforting taste for those who miss Chinese cuisine. Prices are also budget-friendly!
