Thriving in a Dual-Income Household: Our Parenting Strategy for a 1.5-Year-Old
As a family with a 1.5-year-old boy, we find ourselves in a whirlwind of energy and adventure! 🎈 It’s truly a delightful challenge balancing our professional lives and parenting. Here, I’d like to share our current strategies for managing our energetic little one — I hope this can provide some helpful insights for fellow parents out there!
1️⃣ Weekday Routine
We stick to a consistent schedule during the workweek:
- Daily Daycare: We ensure our child goes to daycare each day.
- Finding a daycare with long operating hours and a close proximity to work has been a game changer! This setup allows us to save commuting time, and in case of any emergencies, we can conveniently stop by.
2️⃣ Weekend Adventures
Since our little one learned to walk, he’s become an incredibly energetic explorer!
- Date Night Nanny: We hire a nanny once a week for a delightful date night. Having a few hours to recharge with friends or enjoy a massage is invaluable.
- Nearby Strolls: We ensure our weekend outings are close to home, allowing our child to run around and expend energy. We’ve discovered that family memberships to museums or zoos are fantastic, especially during winter months! When it’s warm, we love visiting local playgrounds and parks.
🌟 Our ideal weekend schedule includes taking our child outdoors for 2-3 hours in the morning to fully utilize that energy, followed by a midday meal and nap. Once awake, the little one is in a great mood for playtime at home, capping off an enriching day.
3️⃣ Health Matters
Managing a sick baby is one of the toughest challenges we face, so staying healthy is our top priority!
- After every visit to a public place or playdate with other children, we immediately use hand sanitizer to keep those germs at bay.
- We stay consistent with daily vitamins and fish oil, change clothes promptly when they get wet, and ensure all vaccinations are administered on time.
4️⃣ Maintaining the Right Mindset
One crucial mindset is learning to let go of the smaller details while focusing on what truly matters.
- It’s completely normal for our child to experience minor bumps and bruises as he explores the world. As working parents, we simply cannot dedicate 100% of our time and energy to parenting.
- Maintaining a relaxed mindset allows us to have fun together, ensuring that we can enjoy the journey of parenting without unnecessary stress! ❤️
