Exploring Authentic French Cuisine in New York City
When you think of fine dining, what comes to mind? High-end restaurants with long English menus? How about a hidden gem in bustling New York City that serves an all-French menu? 🇫🇷
After a long time without indulging in an exquisite French meal, I found myself pleasantly surprised at the quality of dining here in NYC!
The All-French Experience
Stepping into this cozy restaurant, I was greeted by an entirely French menu—no English translations in sight! Imagine the challenges this would pose in other parts of the world. But here, it’s a badge of honor, showcasing authenticity in every dish. With only 15 tables and 4 bar seats, the intimate setting adds to the allure.
Appetizers that Transport You
🥣 Tête de Veau: This dish is the epitome of rich French flavor, reminiscent of the hearty beef broths I savored during my childhood. Unlike many, I find the gelatinous textures near the nose and the succulent cheek meat to be a delicacy! The flavor is so intense that it led me to amusingly think about the culinary potential of my own cheeks. And don’t get me started on fish cheeks—they’re incredible too!
Another standout was the escargot. I was astounded to find some of the largest snails I’ve ever encountered—bigger than those I’ve had in France! Accompanied by a delightful tomato salsa, this dish was unlike anything I’d tasted before.
A Taste of Lyon
Assiette Bouchon: Now this one had me stumped on translating! Essentially, it’s a Lyonnais tavern platter, featuring sliced charcuterie (house-made cold ham), a soft-boiled egg, celery root salad with a creamy mayonnaise, and the cutest little radishes. The flavor was mind-blowing, particularly if you’re accustomed to French fare. The cold ham melted in my mouth, giving even the finest French charcuteries a run for their money. Absolutely delightful!
A Sweet Note to End
As for dessert, I sampled the nougat ice cream, but it was a minor letdown—the pistachio flavor was subdued, although the apricot was quite pleasant. While I wouldn’t specifically recommend the dessert, the overall dining experience was more than worth it!
Cheers to Great Cocktails!
Last but not least, I must mention the espresso martini crafted by the talented bartender at the bar. It’s officially the best I’ve tasted across Manhattan; a definite highlight that outshines drinks from even the most luxurious hotels I’ve visited, including hotspots like Mo New York and Mark. Trust me, this is a must-try! 🍸
