In 2023, I returned to my home country for my visa interview and faced the tedious process of waiting in line for four long hours 😞. Fortunately, the actual interview only took a couple of minutes, and I was approved! My experience took place at the U.S. Embassy in Beijing, focusing on a non-sensitive medical profession. I heard recently that interview queues are now divided into time slots, which is likely to reduce waiting times.

This cost includes initial financial investments, the time required to learn and adapt to a new culture, and the pressures of facing explicit or subtle discrimination. There’s also the emotional toll of long-term separation from family and the daunting wait for a green card.
