Moving Back to the USA: A Journey of Finding the Right Luggage Shipping Solution

Relocating back to your home country can be a daunting task, especially when your company isn’t covering the moving costs. Recently, I faced this challenge and found myself navigating the murky waters of luggage shipping recommendations online. The search for dependable information was overwhelming, filled with ads, warnings, and inconsistent advice.

The Search for a Reliable Shipping Service

As I scoured various posts looking for luggage shipping options, I was met with everything from promotional content to cautionary tales. Some friends even suggested using the postal service or standard delivery companies. However, I was left with a difficult decision—affordable options lacked tracking, while ones with tracking were significantly more expensive. My anxiety built as I couldn’t find a trustworthy recommendation for my international move.

A Ray of Hope:悟空行李 (Wukong Luggage)

Just when I thought I would have to settle for untrustworthy options, I stumbled upon a mention of a company called Wukong Luggage. Many posts about them seemed devoid of negative experiences or promotional hype, offering a sense of reliability. I figured this was better than the barrage of advertisements and warning posts, so I reached out to them via WeChat for more details.

The Shipping Process Begins

Wukong quoted me a price of $4 per pound, indicating that they use FedEx for the U.S. portion of the shipment and JD for delivery in my home country. They also assured me that tracking would be available throughout the journey, which was reassuring. With that, I decided to use their services.

Prepping My Belongings

As I packed my essentials, including Lego sets, bags, and shoes, the customer service team provided excellent guidance. They suggested mixing different types of items in each box to avoid potential customs inspection. This led me to prepare and package a variety of items across seven boxes. It was a lengthy process—after work each day, I dedicated my evenings to wrapping, boxing, and weighing my belongings until late at night.

Shipping Logistics and Challenges

Understanding the concept of dimensional weight, I filled each box to about 42-47 pounds. The boxes, which I sourced from Lowe’s, were heavy-duty and sturdy. Once everything was ready, the Wukong team assisted me in scheduling a FedEx pickup and generated shipping labels for my boxes. However, the pickup didn’t go as planned; despite being home, the FedEx driver never showed. After a frustrating call from FedEx, which insisted nobody was home, I took matters into my own hands and dropped off my boxes at their facility.

Awaiting Delivery

The next step was waiting for the boxes to arrive in my home country. From December 19, when the boxes were shipped, to January 5, they cleared customs, and on January 24, JD delivered them right to my door. Although the holidays caused some delays, everything went remarkably smoothly. Customs didn’t open my boxes, and the customer service team kept me informed throughout the process. Upon arrival, I inspected the boxes and found no damages—an overwhelming relief!

Your Luggage Shipping Journey

If you’re considering shipping luggage back to the USA or any other destination, I hope my experience provides valuable insight. Finding the right shipping company can relieve much of the stress associated with moving. With patience and thorough research, I discovered a reliable solution that exceeded my expectations. Happy moving!
