Exploring Upstate New York: A Road Trip Adventure 🌍
Day 0️⃣: Departure from Boston 🚗
After clocking out from work in Boston, we hit the road and made our way to Utica by nightfall. The anticipation of exploring the scenic wonders of Upstate New York was palpable as we drove through the night.
Day 1️⃣: Nature’s Beauty at Green Lakes & Chimney Bluffs
📍Green Lakes State Park
We commenced our adventure at the stunning Green Lakes State Park, home to rare turquoise lakes in the Eastern U.S. The water was crystal clear, teeming with small fish. We strolled around the entire lake and even made a detour to Round Lake, which, while not as green, was equally mesmerizing. 👍
📍Chimney Bluffs State Park
Next, we ventured to Chimney Bluffs State Park, located along the shores of Lake Ontario. A 3-mile round trip trail led us through somewhat muddy terrain to see the stunning bluffs up close—a hike truly worth making! 👍
Day 2️⃣: The Splendor of State Parks
📍Letchworth State Park
Designated as New York’s first state park, Letchworth State Park certainly lived up to its reputation. We enjoyed breathtaking views from Archery Field Overlook and Inspiration Point. Hiking the trail from Upper Fall to Middle Fall involved a few steps, but there are convenient parking options at each spot for those who prefer to drive.
📍Watkins Glen State Park
The Gorge Trail at Watkins Glen State Park is a must-visit, featuring stunning views and incredible photo opportunities—just be prepared for crowds! Make sure to wear waterproof shoes, and consider taking the quieter North Rim Trail on your return for a more serene experience.
Day 3️⃣: Art and Academia
📍Corning Museum of Glass
A visit to the Corning Museum of Glass offered us not just informative exhibits but also live glassmaking demonstrations. It’s a perfect spot for interesting photographs and to appreciate the art of glass craftsmanship.
📍Ithaca/Cornell University
We didn’t miss out on the beautiful Cornell University campus, where we could soak in the academic atmosphere and even visited the Cornell Lab of Ornithology to observe various bird species.
Day 4️⃣: A Historic Insight
📍Home of Franklin D. Roosevelt National Historic Site
Finally, we wrapped up our trip with a guided tour of the Home of Franklin D. Roosevelt National Historic Site. This grand estate, where FDR was born and raised, provided fascinating insights into American history. Best of all, the National Park Pass allowed us to enter for free, making it a fantastic conclusion to our road trip!
