It’s not every day that you find yourself engulfed in the overwhelming kindness of strangers, but that’s exactly what happened to me during my recent trip to the USA. After struggling for weeks with various challenges, a beautiful encounter with two lovely American grandmas reminded me of the profound goodness in humanity.

My journey in the USA hasn’t been easy. I faced multiple rejections while trying to find a second job and dealt with weekly encounters of racial discrimination. To top it off, my phone unfortunately fell into water, leaving me disconnected and without a means to reach out for help in an unfamiliar country. With less than ideal weather and reduced work hours, my spirits were low. After spending a day in vain trying to get my phone repaired, I decided to seek help at an Apple Store.

While waiting for assistance, I struck up a conversation with two delightful American grandmas. We chatted as if we were old friends, sharing stories about our lives and pets. To my surprise, they had visited China many times and even had dear friends in Guangzhou! Their warmth immediately lifted my spirits as we laughed and connected over our shared experiences.

As we waited for help, I noticed that no one was attending to us. One of the grandmas took it upon herself to approach a staff member and inquire about my phone. After a while, we found out that the repair would cost around $600, and unfortunately, all of my data was lost. Devastated and ready to purchase a new phone, I prepared myself for the financial burden. That’s when one of the grandmas did something completely unexpected — she extended her credit card to me and insisted I use it to pay for the new phone. Despite my numerous refusals, she persisted, saying it would make her happy to help. 🥹🥹🥹

Never in my wildest dreams did I expect to receive such kindness from a stranger. It made me reflect on how I can give back and assist others in their times of need, just like she did for me. This experience reminded me that the world is still filled with generous souls, and I aspire to be that type of person in the future.
