Navigating the Complex World of U.S. Visas: A Personal Journey
As an international student in the USA, my emotions are a tangled web of hope and struggle. I’ve watched friends either return to their home countries due to unsuccessful H1B lottery results or continue to fight for their place in America. I often find myself deeply immersed in this challenging experience. 😔
The H1B Lottery and the CPT Dilemma
For a long time, I tried my luck with the H1B lottery but faced constant disappointment. This led me to enroll in a school that offers CPT (Curricular Practical Training)—a necessity not just for my education but for my work eligibility. While pursuing my studies, I felt like I was trapped in a hectic schedule that stretched from Friday to Sunday, working and studying simultaneously. The stress was overwhelming; I nearly failed a course, which put my CPT status—and my ability to work—on the line!
It’s clear that regardless of the visa type, the ultimate goal is obtaining a stable identity here in the U.S. Without resolving underlying identity issues, living in America often feels like drifting without a life raft. 😓
Gratitude for Family Support
I owe immense gratitude to my parents, who foresaw the impending expiration of my visa and urged me to rush my EB5 application. With them being back home, I primarily took charge by communicating with our lawyer and overseeing the process. Fortunately, I made the right choices, which led to receiving my combo card—a pivotal milestone on my path to obtaining a green card! 😇🍾🎇
