Memorable West Coast Road Trip: From San Francisco to Los Angeles
Unforgettable California Road Trip: From San Francisco to Los Angeles 🌴
As a travel blogger with five years of experience and the thrill of five years of self-driving adventures under my belt, I have traversed many breathtaking routes. However, the most unforgettable journey I’ve embarked upon so far has been along the West Coast of the USA—specifically in California.
This year, I explored a route rich in natural beauty through a series of stunning national parks, starting from San Francisco and making my way to San Diego and finally arriving in the City of Angels, Los Angeles. This incredible 15-day journey included visits to three vibrant cities and four beautiful national parks. I’m excited to share my itinerary with you! Who knows—one day, you might find yourself at this natural sanctuary on the Pacific coast.
Day 1: Arrival in San Francisco
Upon landing at San Francisco International Airport, I picked up my rental car and drove to Folsom, which took about 2 hours. For a cozy stay, I recommend the Lake Natoma Inn located at 702 Gold Lake Dr, Folsom. (If you wish, you can also spend 2-3 days exploring San Francisco before hitting the road.)
Days 2-3: Folsom to Yosemite National Park
The drive to Yosemite National Park from Folsom took approximately 4 hours. Within the park, there are three accommodations available, and I found the best value for money at Yosemite Valley Lodge, located at 9006 Yosemite Lodge Dr, Yosemite.
Days 4-5: Exploring Sequoia National Park
Next up was a 4-hour drive from Yosemite to Sequoia National Park. I recommend a one-day adventure hitting the highlights: Kings Canyon National Park, General Grant Tree, General Sherman Tree, and Tunnel Log. In the evening, it’s great to settle down in the charming town of Visalia, where you’ll find shopping and dining options that are both convenient and safe. For an excellent and historical stay, consider The Darling hotel, which is located at 210 N Court St, Visalia.
Day 6: The Journey to Death Valley
The next leg involved a scenic 6-hour drive to Death Valley National Park. Please be aware that the park has only two hotels; it’s best to book ahead. I stayed at the Inn at Death Valley, which offers unique cave-like rooms surrounded by incredible landscapes.
Day 7: Death Valley to Joshua Tree National Park
After taking in the dramatic scenery, I drove about 5 hours to Joshua Tree National Park. Here, you can find cozy and unique accommodations that make for great stargazing opportunities.
Days 8-9: Joshua Tree to San Diego
The drive to San Diego takes about 3 hours. I suggest staying at La Jolla Cove, where you’ll be greeted with the sun, ocean, palm trees, and, of course, playful sea lions. It’s a popular vacation spot among locals!
Day 10: The Final Drive to Los Angeles
Finally, the drive from San Diego to Los Angeles is about 2.5 hours. I recommend spending a couple of days soaking up the sights in LA before heading to Anaheim to enjoy two exciting days at Disney.
Conclusion
This road trip not only showcases the natural beauty of California but also offers a chance to experience diverse landscapes, delicious food, and friendly locals. Whenever you’re ready, make your journey to this piece of paradise on the West Coast—there’s adventure waiting for you! 🌊🌄
