When planning our visit in June, we diligently made our reservation three months ahead. And oh boy, it was worth the wait! This park is a visual feast, adorned with vibrant greenery against the backdrop of a clear blue sky. When we stepped inside, the refreshing air was a welcome relief from the outside heat!

Prepare for Nature’s Wonders 🍃

The park is a splendid ecosystem, but don’t forget to prepare for the little critters! After checking various travel guides, I opted for long sleeves and pants to guard against mosquitoes. While the heat was intense during our trek to the park, once inside, the climate was just right. I did notice some visitors in shorts struggling with the insects!

Stay Hydrated 💧

Another tip: the reserve does not have any water stations. Be sure to bring a water bottle to stay hydrated during your exploration!

Bird Watching Bliss 🐦

Although I wasn’t familiar with the different species of birds populating the reserve, I was captivated by their presence. As others around me pointed out various kinds—“Look at that xxx bird!”—I simply shouted, “Wow, birds! Wow!! So many birds!” Watching them soar freely made my heart sing with joy!

Though the park isn’t very large, expect to spend about an hour and a half to two hours wandering through its scenic beauty. If you’re an avid bird watcher, you might find yourself lingering even longer.

• Closed on Mondays: Plan your visit accordingly as the reserve is not open to the public.

As of September 2025, please note that the entrance has been adjusted due to construction work on the Science Tunnel.

New Entrance: Navigate to “Mangrove Coastal Ecological Park (North Gate 6)” and follow the signs after spotting the “Futian Mangrove Nature Reserve” monument.

Public Transport: Take a bus to the “Mangrove” bus station or ride the metro line 9 to “Shenzhen Bay Park” station.
