Discovering the Best Xinjiang Cuisine in New York: A Foodie’s Delight

If you’re seeking an unforgettable culinary experience in the USA, particularly in New York, look no further! This charming eatery claims to serve the best Xinjiang cuisine in the city, rivaling even the flavors found in Urumqi. I had the pleasure of sampling their offerings, including milk tea, big plate chicken, and lamb skewers. Here’s my take on the flavors:

Big Plate Chicken

The big plate chicken was a delightful dish! While it was a tad salty, the chicken itself was incredibly tender and did not fall apart. With hints of doubanjiang (fermented broad bean paste) flavor, paired with perfectly cooked noodles, it made for a satisfying meal overall. The noodles had a wonderful chewiness that added to the enjoyment!

Lamb Skewers

The lamb skewers were also quite impressive. They were tender, with a nice balance of meat and fat, which made for a deliciously savory bite. Surprisingly, they didn’t have that strong mutton smell often found in lamb dishes, and the cumin flavor was mild as well. However, the meat was cut a little thick, a common trait I’ve noticed in Xinjiang restaurants across the United States. Are we moving toward a kebab culture?

The Stunning Xinjiang Milk Tea

Now, let’s talk about the standout of the meal: the Xinjiang milk tea. OMG, it was absolutely sensational! With its unique salty and fragrant flavor profile, the tea was topped with a rich layer of milk skin, delivering an indulgent taste that I dare say surpassed any milk tea I’ve had in Xinjiang itself. I highly recommend trying it!

A Must-Visit Eatery

This restaurant ranks among the top spots I’ve visited for Xinjiang cuisine, not just in the East but also in the West and Central USA. The owner, originally from Urumqi, exuded confidence in every dish. I jokingly asked him what the best item on the menu was, and he cheerfully replied, “Everything is delicious!”

A Touch of Home in Flushing

One of the most fascinating aspects of Flushing is how much it resembles life back in China. Just spending a day here felt like I completed my annual quota of familiar faces in the Chinese community! If you ever find yourself stuck and longing for home, a stroll through Flushing is definitely a solution. Check out the Tangram mall—if you didn’t know any better, you might think you were still in China! 😄
