Exploring Aspen: A Beautiful Fall Journey through Colorado 🍁

On September 29, 2024, we set off from Vail, heading through scenic spots like Red Cliff, Leadville, Twin Lakes, and the breathtaking Independence Pass, ultimately reaching Aspen. The color palette of autumn was vibrant all around us as we journeyed along Hwy 24. A delightful surprise was spotting a mountain goat in the forests lining the highway. The drive, especially on the way up to Independence Pass, was a mesmerizing experience as we traversed a road flanked by stunning aspen groves. However, since it was a Sunday and coincided with the peak of the season, we faced a traffic jam on our return, preventing further exploration. 🚦

Arrival in Aspen and Royal Treatment at W Hotel 🧡

By afternoon, we arrived in Aspen and checked into the luxurious W Hotel. As platinum members, we were delighted to discover an $80 dining credit that we could use for breakfast at the hotel. Additionally, the hotel offers a complimentary shuttle service that takes guests to the nearby Aspen Highlands, a perfect starting point for a trip to Maroon Bells.

Maroon Bells Adventure: A Must-See Autumn Destination 🍂

On September 30, 2024, we visited the iconic Maroon Bells. Having pre-purchased tickets online, I booked slots for both September 29 and 30, just in case, since our first attempt on the 29th was cut short. After breakfast, the hotel staff kindly drove us to the shuttle pick-up point for Maroon Bells, and we easily returned using the free town bus service, which has a convenient stop right next to W Hotel.

Luckily, we arrived at Maroon Bells just in time for the peak foliage. Though a few leaves had begun to drift to the ground, the beautiful scene of leaves swirling in the autumn breeze was nothing short of romantic. On this peaceful Monday, the crowds were significantly lighter, allowing us to truly soak in the serenity of nature. A highlight of the afternoon was spotting a moose drinking water, although we had to head back for lunch before we could enjoy the full experience.

Wandering Through Aspen Town 🏘️

The fall scenery in Aspen and around Maroon Bells was simply stunning. The quaint town of Aspen exuded a cozy charm, perfect for a leisurely stroll. We meandered through its streets, absorbing the crisp autumn air and admiring the seasonal transformation of the landscape.

Return Journey via Glenwood Springs and Guanella Pass 🚗

On October 1, 2024, we departed Aspen, making our way back to Denver through Glenwood Springs. A detour to Guanella Pass revealed that we had just missed peak foliage; a significant number of trees had already shed their leaves. Unfortunately, Mount Blue Sky was closed due to roadwork, but we left with anticipation for future adventures among Colorado’s breathtaking landscape. 🌄
