About Notre Dame

While our Computer Science department might not yet be as renowned as some of the bigger names, it’s a rapidly evolving environment with improvements happening year after year. 😃 One of the unique aspects of Notre Dame is the low number of Chinese students, leading to a closely-knit community where everyone enjoys spending time together. Over the years, stipends have been on the rise, allowing students to save significantly, contributing to a comfortable living here. 🎉

On the downside, the campus can feel a bit quiet with limited entertainment options, especially in winter (great for academic focus, though! ☃️).

About Our Research Group

Our lab boasts a fantastic atmosphere with ample funding. Unlike many other programs, you’re only required to be a teaching assistant during your first year, allowing you to focus on your research afterward. Our professor is incredibly supportive and promotes a healthy work-life balance—pushing students is not part of our ethos. We frequently organize team-building activities, including exciting group hikes and cycling trips. 🚴‍♂️ This year, we’ve even been generously gifted boxes of fresh produce as a fun team bonding experience! 🥦

When it comes to internships, you’ll find plenty of freedom and opportunities. Our professor has a wealth of connections, and nearly everyone wanting to intern during their first summer has successfully landed a position! ✈️

Career Paths of Our Graduates

Our group has seen substantial success, with six PhD graduates to date: two have moved on to academia as assistant professors at Nankai University and the University of Wisconsin-Madison, while four have taken industry positions at notable companies like Amazon, Snapchat, and Tencent AI in Seattle. 🌟
