My Journey Landing My First Job in the USA
Embarking on a journey to work in a foreign country can seem daunting at first. After all, stepping outside your comfort zone is challenging, especially when it involves navigating a new culture and language. 🗺️ However, my determination kicked in, fueled by the enticing exchange rates that made the leap worthwhile. 💪
The Application Process
Securing an interview was just the beginning of my adventure; the real work started with completing the entire application process. It’s essential to understand that getting the job offer is only the initial step towards actually working in the USA. 🇺🇸
Obtaining the Work Permit
After successfully acing my interview, the first major task was to obtain my Work Permit (WP). Fortunately, the approval came through quickly, marking a significant milestone in my journey. The next step involved applying for an Employment Pass (EP) through my company using their Singpass system. This stage took about a month due to the lengthy credential verification process.
Dealing with Credential Verification
One of the critical aspects that prolongs the process is the verification of your educational credentials. If your university takes its time to respond to emails, it could potentially delay your application even further. Additionally, I had to undergo another medical examination, as the requirements for the EP and WP don’t align. 👨⚕️
Lessons Learned for Future Applicants
When the time came for me to change jobs, I noticed that the process had become significantly faster. I didn’t need to go through the tedious steps of re-verifying my credentials or undergoing medical checks again, which saved a lot of time and stress!
Final Thoughts
For anyone considering taking the plunge into the job market in a new country, I hope my experience serves as a guide. Remember, every step in the process is a learning opportunity, and while it may be tough, persistence will pay off. Cheers to all the brave souls venturing abroad! 😚
