Navigating Postpartum Care in the USA: A Personal Journey

During my pregnancy, I had the opportunity to consult my Chinese OB-GYN about the traditional practice of “zuo yuezi” or sitting-the-month. She mentioned that there is no scientific basis supporting this practice, which sparked a lively debate among my friends studying traditional Chinese medicine. 🫨 While many of them firmly believe in its benefits, I opted for a more relaxed approach during my postpartum period.

My Postpartum Experience

Contrary to the traditional constraints of “zuo yuezi,” I didn’t adhere strictly to resting or avoiding certain foods. Instead, I focused on maintaining a positive mood and adequate rest. During this time, I even relocated to a new home, explored the city, and enjoyed outings like watching movies. At times, I almost forgot that I was supposed to be “sitting the month!” 😄

Finding What Works for You

Ultimately, the postpartum experience varies greatly from person to person. Personally, I’m someone who would indulge in ice-cold snacks even when I have my period! 🤷‍♀️ Now that I’m nearing the month mark since childbirth, I feel like I’ve recovered quite well. I can fit back into my pre-pregnancy clothes, although I still have a bit of weight to shed. I’m planning to resume my workout routine after my follow-up appointment, as I still have about 10 pounds to lose. Currently, my weight is at 110 lbs. 😓

Looking Forward

As I think about the journey ahead, I’m excited to share more updates about my postpartum experiences and daily life. Every individual’s journey is unique, and it’s essential to find what works best for you, whether that involves strict adherence to tradition or a more flexible approach. ❤️
