Guide to Traveling from Manhattan to Newark Airport 🚖✈️

Are you planning a trip that starts or ends at Newark Liberty International Airport? This guide will assist you in navigating from Midtown Manhattan to Newark Airport with ease. The journey takes approximately one hour and costs just $17. Let’s dive into the details!

Step 1: Getting to NY Penn Station

Your journey begins at NY Penn Station. Take the subway to reach this major transport hub in New York City. Once inside the station, head to the ticketing area located to your right, where you’ll find both ticket counters and self-service machines.

Step 2: Purchasing Your Ticket

At the self-service ticket machine, select Newark Liberty International Airport as your destination. Follow these steps:

  • Select One Way
  • Choose the appropriate passenger type (Adult or Child)
  • Select your payment method (cash, credit card, or contactless)

Your ticket will cost you $17. Don’t forget to keep this ticket safe; train conductors will check it on board!

Step 3: Finding Your Train

After purchasing your ticket, check the Departures board for trains heading to Newark Airport. Look for the ✈️ icon, which indicates flights to the airport. Take note of the Track number where your train will be departing from.

Step 4: Boarding the Train

Take the escalator to reach your designated track. Once on the train, make yourself comfortable; it’s a brief ride to Newark Airport. Be prepared, as you need to present your ticket during the journey!

Step 5: Arriving at Newark Airport

Alight at the Newark Liberty International Airport station after three stops. Take the elevator up and use your ticket to board the free AirTrain, which connects to terminals A, B, and C. 🚉

Step 6: Reaching Your Terminal

If your destination is Terminal A, ride the AirTrain all the way to the terminal stop. From there, follow signs to any shuttle buses if needed, which offer free transportation to various areas within the airport.

Returning to Manhattan

This method works just as well for returning to Manhattan from Newark Airport. If you’re at Terminal A, simply wait outside for the shuttle to the AirTrain station. Once you arrive at Newark Liberty, purchase your ticket to NY Penn Station and continue your journey back to the city via subway.

📅 Note: This guide reflects my firsthand experience during my trip in mid-October 2025. Please be aware that ticket prices have increased to $17.
