My Journey with USCIS: Navigating the 131 & 765 Timeline

🌟 It’s been quite a journey, and I’m excited to share my experience with the USCIS process for Forms I-131 and I-765. Let’s dive into the timeline, the challenges I faced, and the ultimate triumph of receiving my combo card! 🌟

The Timeline: Key Dates

Here’s a breakdown of my timeline:

  • June 27: Received receipt.
  • July 10: Case actively reviewed.
  • March 5: Case approved.

After an excruciating 8-month wait, my case was finally approved. 🤦‍♀️ My timeline exceeded the normal processing time, which was frustrating, but I held onto a glimmer of hope throughout the process.

Submitting Inquiries and Seeking Help

As October rolled around, I noticed that I could submit an inquiry. The normal processing time was meant to be around 5.5 months, but, by February 10, I decided enough was enough!

On that date, I submitted my inquiry to USCIS, which then sent me a service request confirmation. However, after that, I didn’t hear anything for a while.

Feeling anxious and desperate, I contacted my congresswoman on February 12 for assistance. Her prompt response assured me that she had reached out to USCIS on my behalf. 🙌

Expedited Processing and Final Approval

On March 3, I received news from USCIS via my congresswoman that my case had been routed for expedited processing! 🎉 The excitement built up until March 5, when I saw on the USCIS website that my I-131 case was closed. A phone call later confirmed that my combo card had been approved. If you’re in a similar situation, I cannot stress enough how beneficial it is to call! 📞 It’s much more effective than using the online tool.

Interestingly, I wasn’t actively looking for a job as I was afraid of applying before my work permit arrived. Unfortunately, USCIS doesn’t prioritize expedited processing without substantial reasons, such as financial loss. So, the only options available to me were to submit inquiries and seek assistance from my local representatives.

Tips for Speeding Up Your Process

If you find yourself in need of assistance with your work card or immigration status, here’s how to seek help from your congressperson:

  1. Google “find your representative”.
  2. Enter your zip code and address to find your local congressperson.
  3. Visit the congressperson’s official website and look for the section titled “Agency Help”.
  4. Fill out the necessary information, including details of your case and the assistance you require.

In my case, I explained that my I-765 was out of the normal processing time and detailed the solutions I was seeking. This approach is particularly helpful for those unable to expedite their cases directly with USCIS.

Conclusion: A Hopeful Future Ahead

In closing, I want to extend my best wishes to everyone going through the immigration process. May you all receive your combo cards and green cards soon! 💚🙌 Your journey might be long, but never lose hope. The wait can be worth it in the end!
