Discover Orlando’s Nature: Top State Parks to Visit
If you’re planning a trip to Orlando, chances are you’re excited about visiting Disney and Universal. However, if you’re yearning for a closer connection with nature, don’t miss out on the incredible state parks in the area! 🏞️ With opportunities for swimming, picnicking, camping, and wildlife watching, these parks are perfect for a day trip. Here are three must-visit parks, each just an hour’s drive from the theme parks.
1. Kelly Park – Rock Springs 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Highlights:
- The crystal-clear waters are reminiscent of a sapphire; no snorkeling gear is needed to see the vibrant fish swimming below.
- Enjoy swimming, tubing, picnicking, and hiking amidst this well-equipped park with a comfortable year-round water temperature averaging 20°C (68°F) – a summer oasis!
- For kayaking adventures, head over to Kings Landing nearby to rent a kayak; the park separates swimming and kayaking for safety.
- Don’t miss the kayaking experience! A tandem kayak can be rented for 4 hours at $77, and you’ll likely encounter wildlife like alligators, deer, and various water birds.
Tip: The park opens at 8 AM, and on weekends or during the summer, it’s advisable to arrive before 6 AM to avoid long queues. We visited in November when temperatures dropped below 10°C (50°F) and found it easier to get in even at noon.
2. Wekiwa Springs State Park 🌟🌟🌟🌟
Highlights:
- This park comes highly recommended by locals and is larger compared to Kelly Park. It’s just a 16-minute drive from Kelly Park, making it a perfect alternate choice if Kelly Park is packed.
Note: Due to its popularity, the park now operates on a reservation basis. Be sure to book your spot on their official website early, especially during the summer.
3. Blue Spring State Park 🌟🌟🌟
Highlights:
- From November to March, this park is a fantastic place to spot manatees. At peak times, up to 700 of these gentle giants can be found here!
- Engage in activities like boating and picnicking, but remember that the manatee viewing area is restricted, so you can only observe from the shore.
Note: It’s an additional hour’s drive from Kelly Park, so if your goal is to see manatees, plan your visit accordingly. Outside of manatee season, it’s not worth a dedicated trip.
So, whether you’re splashing into crystal-clear waters or exploring lush trails, Orlando’s state parks are a fantastic way to experience Florida’s natural beauty. 🌊🌿 Don’t forget to bring your camera to capture the amazing wildlife and scenery!
Happy adventuring! ☀️
