My Journey: From O-1 Visa to NIW Application in the USA

Honestly, I’ve never met anyone like me who secured an O-1 visa and then applied for a National Interest Waiver (NIW) after two years in the USA. Could I be the first? At just 25 years old and a Master’s graduate in Interior Design, I’ve been working with a design firm for over two years now.

Preparing for the O-1 Visa

My O-1 visa journey began two years ago, and by June 2023, I finally held that precious visa in my hands. Navigating the world of agencies online was a mixed bag; I inevitably stumbled into a few pitfalls among the myriad of offerings. Luckily, after thorough research, I chose a local law firm in the US. In total, the O-1 visa process cost me $18,000, which was transparent and straightforward.

Arriving in the USA

In September 2023, I landed in the US. Time flew by, and before I knew it, over two years had passed. I gradually acclimated to the local pace of life, growing to love living in America.

Making the Decision to Settle

Having grown fond of my new life, I made a significant decision: I wanted to settle down for the long haul. After consulting with my lawyer, I opted to pursue my permanent residency through the NIW route.

Preparing the NIW Application

In August 2025, I signed a contract with my law firm to start gathering the necessary materials. Just three months later, I received notification of my approval, which showcases remarkable efficiency, with a total cost of $22,000.

Looking Ahead

Having achieved my goal for the year, I’m in no rush to make new plans. Instead, I’m focusing on stabilizing my life, work, and studies. For my friends back home who may be interested in transitioning from O-1 to NIW, I’m here to lend a helping hand whenever time permits!

It’s been an incredible journey so far, filled with challenges and triumphs. If you’re considering the same path toward residency in the USA, know that persistence and the right guidance can lead you to success! 🌟
